Air filters are also important components of a gas furnace. These filters help to remove dirt, dust, and other particles from the air that is being drawn into the furnace. This helps to keep the furnace clean and running efficiently.

 

The burner assembly is the part of the furnace that actually ignites the fuel source (natural gas or propane). Fuel is mixed with air and the mixture is ignited by the burner assembly to cause a controlled combustion. After igniting the flame, it will automatically adjust to the temperature set by the thermostat.

 

Ignitors and thermal couples are also important components of a gas furnace. The ignitor is responsible for lighting up the gas that is released by the burner assembly. There are different types of ignitors, including hot surface ignitors, spark ignitors, and intermittent pilots. 

 

A thermal couple is a safety device that is designed to shut off the gas flow if the burner flame ever goes out. It consists of two metals that are joined together at one end, and when this end is heated by the burner flame, it generates a small electrical voltage that keeps the gas valve open. If the flame goes out, the voltage disappears, and the thermal couple will shut off the gas to prevent any hazardous situations from occurring.

 

Together, the ignitor and thermal couple ensure that the burner assembly is safely lit and stays lit, while also monitoring the flame to ensure it continues to burn safely and efficiently.

 

Finally, the flame sensor is a component that is responsible for monitoring the burner assembly. If the sensor senses that the burner assembly is not igniting properly or that the flame has gone out, it will shut off the furnace to prevent any accidents or hazards.
